A GREAT SPRING BBQ!!!

Despite the rain, and lots of it, nearly a thousand people attended our Spring BBQ and had a great time.  Thanks to everyone who worked hard, sponsored, cooked, served, and ate.  Congratulations to Debbie Leary, the Icardo BBQ crew, and everyone who adjusted and made this work.  We are a small, but mighty Parish!!!

 Religious Education News

2005-06 Religious Education registration is still open through May 31.  Parents of 1st & 2nd grade children should register NOW because class size is limited. Registration forms are available on our parish web site www.olphbak.org.  Look under resources-forms. 

Religious Education is in need of parent volunteers for 1st & 2nd year sacrament classes and pre-Confirmation 10th grade & Confirmation.  If your child is planning to attend one of these classes in the fall we need you!

We Have A Fireworks Booth!!  This year our booth will be located in the Vons parking lot on Olive Drive and Knudson.  We are in need of volunteers to make this year’s booth a success.  If you are willing to help in any way, please call Greg West in the Youth Ministry Office 327-0712

 OLPH School News

Mrs. Wright’s seventh grade social studies students are researching customs, dress and foods of various cultures in order to make Power Point presentations for the class.

        Sixth graders in Mrs. Louden’s class are beginning the novel, A Wrinkle in Time.  They are to read a chapter and complete folder activities daily.  In computer lab, Mrs. Lefler is teaching them the history of the computer and parts of a computer.

        Congratulations to Gary Hubl who won a fourth place trophy at the Bank of America Speech/Essay Contest.  Contestants had to write and present a speech relating to the theme, “If You Could Trade Places with Anyone For a Day, Whom Would You Trade With and Why?”  Gary chose to write and speak about President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

        Mr. Prinster’s Accelerated Algebra students are studying and reviewing for the Garces Algebra Challenge Exam to be given on Wednesday, May 18.

        Mrs. Cunniffe’s second graders are reading that wonderful spider story, Charlotte’s Web.  They will present a play for the kindergartners based on the novel.  In  math they are learning how to divide by using information from the multiplication tables or by using counters.

        Thirteen OLPH athletes qualified to participate in the Area Track Meet in Taft.  They included Conrad DeClaro, Everett Beeman, Adam Karpe, Chris Judge, Mark Stinson, Holly Garcia, Sarah Ruiz, Kristin Dermer, Mary Naworski, William Naworski, Cruise Adams, Shantel Ornelas and Claire Anspach.  Congratulations to Holly Garcia, 4th place winner in the high jump and Shantel Ornelas, 3rd place in the shot put.  They will compete in the County Meet in Taft.
