The newly elected Pontiff will probably select a new name. Is it required?
No, but it’s been customary and reflects the change of name given St. Peter. Simon, as he was known, was renamed Peter by Jesus for he was to be the Rock, the Petra, for the new Church. Other persons in the Bible had their names changed: Abram to Abraham, Jacob to Israel, Saul to Paul. When you are confirmed, you may select a new name. That change of name reflects your new responsibility as an adult Christian. The Pope’s adoption of a new name indicate his acceptance of a new ministry to the world.

All aboard the Amtrak to Hanford for first grade students and their parents on Wednesday, April 13. While traveling, the students will complete their work packet and enjoy lunch. They will enjoy riding the old-fashioned fire engine and eating ice cream while in Hanford.
Mrs. Cunniffe’s second grade students are being introduced to the precepts of the church in their religion classes. These laws tell us the very least we must do as active members of the Catholic Church. In math the children are recognizing plane shapes and how to identify sides and vertices and, lastly, to identify solid shapes.
In Mrs. Smith’s seventh and eighth grade science classes, the students are finishing up the study of the circulatory system and reviewing for the final exam. Correlating labs include cow heart dissection and examination of capillaries in fish fins.
During April, Mrs. Bair’s fourth graders are preparing how-to demonstrations instead of writing formal book reports or completing book projects. The students are to read a non-fiction book or a portion of a book that explains the steps in demonstrating how to do something. The how-to demonstrations will take place in the classroom the last week of April.
During March’s Pennies for Patients Campaign sponsored by the Student Council, students brought in a total of $1,074.00. These funds were raised to help a local boy suffering from leukemia.
