Next Sunday, Father David Powers of the Piarist Fathers will speak at all masses about his community’s work in the poorer areas of the United States, especially Appalachia. He will seek our support through a second collection.
Each year the parishes of our diocese support the missions, home and abroad, by inviting missionaries to explain their work and appeal for your financial and spiritual support.
Order of the Pious Schools
The Piarist Fathers were founded by St. Joseph Calasanctius in Rome in 1617. In addition to the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, the Piarists take a fourth vow to educate youth. They operate between 195 and 200 schools in 32 countries around the world. One of those schools is located in the Appalachian region of eastern Kentucky.
We are asking for you support in helping us not only in our educational work in Appalachia but also in our many outreach programs designed to help those living in poverty in the mountains.
The three Piarists stationed in eastern Kentucky minister to the Catholics in three counties who number less than 1/2 of 1% of the population.
We Have A Fireworks Booth!! This year our booth will be located in the Vons parking lot on Olive Drive and Knudson.
We are in need of volunteers to make this year’s booth a success. If you are willing to help in any way, please call Greg West in the Youth Ministry Office 327-0712.
15 % discount for volunteers working the booth and hours for School Parents.
2-hour shifts are all that are asked to support our Youth programs for Junior High and High School students.

As students work on reading and math skills in Mrs. Cunniffe’s 1st and 2nd grade classroom this summer, they are also using various strategies to hone their listening skills in order to become more skillful at following directions. The students are using animal shaped sponges and tempera paint to make art collages as well as fingerprint impressions to make unique creations. They will view “Scott’s Energy Adventure”, a video to help them learn about saving energy.
Mrs. Keenan’s second and third graders will be reading and conducting experiments to understand how sand dunes are formed. They continue to perfect phonics skills as they read and write. Math work includes practice with regrouping and renaming while completing addition and subtraction problems.
Mrs. Bair’s fourth and fifth graders are increasing in speed and accuracy as they practice multiplication tables and work multiplication problems. Students continue to write their adventure stories about the character they created.
