MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE
Plastering of the church, rectory and parish hall is nearing completion. We started last December with a new cement foundation or barrier poured around the church and rectory, then the painting of all the eaves and wood, finally after rain upon rain, the plastering began.
There is one area (the east side of the garage) that will await plastering until the doves have sent their young away. But for the most part this part of the improvements will be finished. The finish looks good.
New basketball courts and standards. Excavation will start the week after the fourth of July. It will precede preparing for basketball courts with just 1 1/2% of a sloop. New basketball standards will also be installed. The courts will be reduced from two to three.
Two new cement culverts will be poured in the parking lot for water run-off. Finally, the entire playground and parking lot will be resurfaced and new lines painted for sports and parking.
The sand under the playground will also be excavated in early July and replaced by rubberized bark. This will be a great disappointment for all the young children who have over the years dug for hidden treasure in the sand. But teachers will be happier and the maintenance even more so with no more sand in the classrooms.
The flower beds have taken a beating. New cement foundations required everything be cut back from the walls and then plastic tarp was laid over many of the plants and shrubs. It protected them from paint and plaster but the heat build-up underneath killed much of them. Work has already begun in cleaning out the beds in preparation for new planting and the salvation of the old. In time, with care and good watering we will see our grounds bloom again.
Except for the rubberized bark paid for by a donation from Ray & Lisa Karpe, the other improvements of $100,000.00 plus were made possible because of your continuing donations to Our Faith, Our Family, Our Future Campaign.
